Record year 2023 – spot trading on POLPX in increased by 91.4% year-on-year! But this is not the only record recorded. As reported by POLPX, or Towarowa Giełda Energii, in its summary. The year 2023 brought increases on spot energy trading and also on guarantees of origin trading.
The total volume of electricity trading on POLPX was 147,462,826 MWh in 2023. This represents a 4.3% increase over 2022. Also on record was an increase in the Intraday Market. There, an increase of nearly 144% was recorded. The Day-Ahead market also boasts a record: up 88.1% year-on-year.
However, there have also been declines. According to TGE:
“In the futures market (RTPE), turnover reached 84,246,618 MWh, a decrease of 22.2 percent compared to 2022. The weighted average price of BASE in the Day-Ahead Market was 533.62 PLN/MWh in 2023, a decrease of 262.55 PLN/MWh compared to 2022. On the other hand, in the futures market, the weighted average price of the annual contract with strip delivery in 2024 (BASE_Y-24) amounted to 533.62 PLN/MWh throughout 2023. PLN 642.19/MWh and this is a decrease of PLN 467.85/MWh compared to the quoted price of the BASE_Y-23 contract in 2022.”
Record year 2023 – December also with significant increases
In December 2023, we recorded an increase in electricity trading volume of 14,491,105 MWh. This means that there was an increase of 27.9% compared to December 2022. The last month of 2023 also boasts the second highest monthly RDB trading volume. RDB, or the Intraday Market. It amounted to 521,874 MWh, an increase of 21.6% year-on-year. In addition, as the POLPX summary indicates, as much as 26.6% of the monthly turnover was transactions for delivery on Dec. 31, 2023. Therefore, the last day of December 2023 represents a new record for RDB volume.
