Destroyed photovoltaic panels – pickup from Bialystok

Recently, we have been receiving an increasing number of reports from customers with damaged photovoltaic panels in storage. This was also the case this time.

At the request of one of the companies with which we constantly cooperate we picked up more than 200 pieces of photovoltaic modules from under Bialystok, Podlaskie province. These were panels from different manufacturers and thus were of different weights.

The main reason for recycling photovoltaic panels was their mechanical damage. Transportation and assembly are key moments when modules can be damaged.

The team drove up to Bialystok, as agreed, at 8 am. The panels they picked up were mainly from a photovoltaic farm under construction near Bialystok. They were not on pallets as a result, each module had to be packed by hand. Despite this, our team efficiently loaded the car and was able to return to base after 2 hours of loading.

Destroyed or mechanically damaged photovoltaic panels are bulky electro-waste that cannot be disposed of in a landfill, but must be sent for disposal, to a company that specializes in this. Disposal of photovoltaic modules is governed by BDO regulations. BDO, or the Database on Products and Packaging and Waste Management, is a system through which there is control in the waste management system.

Damaged panels cannot be resold further, as they are not suitable for installation. And this doesn’t just apply to transportation or mounting damage, but also to panels with microcracks or hotspots.

More and more photovoltaic installations are being insured, and in the event of a breakdown, when the insurer agrees to pay the claim one of the conditions for payment of compensation is the presentation of a certificate that the panels have been recycled.

We, or Lighthief, recycle photovoltaic panels. As a result, at the request of the customer, we issue the appropriate certificates of recycling of panels, which are required by insurers for payment of compensation.
