Where to return damaged photovoltaic panels?

When the renewable energy market began to conquer the Polish market, few looked ahead and wondered what would happen when the photovoltaic panels, inverters and windmills being installed came to the end of their lives. In fact, there is a 5, 10 and even 15-year warranty for most components included in photovoltaic installations. But what happens when, for example, the modules have an accident during installation? They will fall from a height, pierce them with a forklift, shatter glass on the surface due to impact…. We are then left with damaged panels that we don’t really know what to do with.

Damaged panels – collection

We cannot return the panels to the Selective Collection of Municipal Waste – or colloquially speaking, PSZOK. Then you can call or write to a photovoltaic module recycling company.

RES recycling is also handled by us as part of our services. We pick up any quantity, from anywhere. You can also bring the panels to Us yourself or send them by courier.

Data as of the end of 2019

Power - photovoltaic panels - data for 2019 - source gov.pl - map
Installed power in photovoltaic panels -. Source Evaluation study titled: “Recycling of depleted technical components of renewable energy sources and electric vehicle batteries as part of the transition towards a closed loop economy”
The study was carried out by Wroconsult Sp. z o.o., based in Wrocław (54-101 Wrocław), at ul. Siedlecka 26.

As we can see from the above graphic, already in 2019 in the whole of Poland has installed a huge MOC in RES installations. Although it has only been four years since then, the RES industry has managed to increase this capacity many times over.

That’s why the RES recycling branch is growing more and more rapidly. Currently, the recycling of photovoltaic panels mainly focuses on recovering the raw material and separating the remaining fractions like glass, metal and silicon.

Is the circulation of photovoltaic modules monitored?

Yes. Starting with their entry into the European Union, through the Polish market and ending with their disposal. As we have written in previous posts damaged panels – these are so-called electro-waste, which are subject to record keeping.

For the time being, recycling is paid for, which means you have to pay for the donated panels. Rates vary because everything depends on the type of module, its weight and also the condition it is in.
